Early morning shooting leaves one dead in Hoffman Triangle

A man was killed early Friday (June 10) in the Hoffman Triangle neighborhood, the New Orleans Police Department reported. It was the second fatal shooting in the Sixth District within 48 hours. Around 3:24 a.m., officers in the area responded to shots fired in the 2800 block of South Roman Street. Upon arrival, they discovered an adult male victim suffering from an undetermined number of gunshot wounds. The victim died at the scene.

Man killed in Central City shooting

A man was shot to death when gunmen opened fire on a Central City street on Wednesday (June 8), the New Orleans Police Department reported. At about 5:30 p.m., NOPD Sixth District officers responded to a report of gunfire in the 2800 block of Josephine Street. They found a man suffering from gunshot wounds. The Emergency Medical Service took him to the University Medical Center, where he died. The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will identify the victim and official cause of death upon completion of autopsy and notification of family.

Man shoots two car burglary suspects on Nashville Avenue, NOPD reports

A man whose car was burglarized on Nashville Avenue on Friday night (Feb. 27) shot and injured the two alleged burglars, the New Orleans Police Department reported. The 30-year-old man reportedly heard a gunshot at about 9 p.m. after seeing two people breaking into his car in the 2700 block of Nashville, near South Claiborne Avenue, according to the police report. He fired his gun, hitting both of them. The shooting victims, a 16-year-old juvenile and 29-year-old man, arrived at a local emergency room on their own with gunshot injuries.

Maple Leaf holding benefit concert and blood drive for shooting victim

The Maple Leaf Bar, 8316 Oak St., is holding a benefit concert and blood drive Saturday (May 28) in support of Joe Cooper, who was shot four times while protecting his wife and his home in Gentilly. The Emergency Medical Service gave him a blood transfusion on the way to University Medical Center, which helped to save his life. Cooper was shot twice in the lungs, and a bullet lacerated his liver. He is expected to have surgery today (May 26), his wife, WWOZ deejay Leslie Cooper, said in a Facebook post. The show will kick off at high noon and will feature Funk Monkey, 101 Runners, Russell Batiste and Friends, Papa Mali Trio, Erica Falls, CR Gruver, Jake Eckert, Leo Nocentelli, Brad Walker and Andre Bohren.

Man shot to death on Central City street

A man was shot to death Wednesday morning (May 18) in Central City, the New Orleans Police Department reported. Police found a man in the 2700 block of Clara Street, near Washington Avenue, with a single gunshot wound. The offense occurred shortly before 10:30 a.m., police said. Medical responders took him to a local hospital, where he later died. The Coroner’s Office identified him as Byron Coleman.

Police blotter: Shooting in Central City, armed robbery in Freret

NOPD announces arrests in Uptown homicide, shooting and armed robbery

The NOPD’s Violent Offender Warrant Squad arrested Armand J. Labranch, 57, on one count of second-degree murder in a Hollygrove shooting death. The arrest came in the investigation of a homicide on March 25 in the 3000 block of Eagle Street. Derwin Bernard, 32, died at University Medical Center from a single gunshot wound. Labranch remained jailed on Tuesday (May 10) on $300,000 bond, Sheriff’s Office records show. On May 1, Sixth District detectives arrested Tommie Allen, 51, on one count of principle to aggravated second-degree battery.

Man injured by sheriff’s deputy breaking up fight at Earhart Boulevard restaurant

An Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office deputy shot a man Sunday (May 8) during an altercation on Earhart Boulevard near South Carrollton Avenue, the New Orleans Police Department reported. At about 11:45 a.m., the NOPD received an “officer needs assistance, life in danger” signal, the police report states. The officer, who is listed as the victim in the incident report, was not injured. The officer reportedly discharged his service weapon to break up a fight between two men at the Nice Guys Nola restaurant. Two rounds had been fired, according to the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office, before the deputy used his gun.

Boy shot in Lower Garden District may be child-abuse victim, NOPD says

A child was injured Tuesday night (May 3) by gunfire inside a Lower Garden District home, the New Orleans Police Department reported. The boy, whose age was not provided, suffered a single gunshot wound, police said. The Emergency Medical Service took him from the house in the 600 block of Felicity Street to the hospital around 8 p.m. The child’s condition was not available Wednesday. Police initially referred to the shooting as an aggravated battery. On Wednesday morning, the NOPD announced it is treating the shooting as a cruelty-to-a-juvenile incident.

Police blotter: Driver injured in shootout on I-10, armed robberies and burglary in Hollygrove area

Multiple armed robberies and a burglary were reported recently in the Hollygrove area, and a woman was caught in a shootout between vehicles on Interstate 10 near South Carrollton Avenue, according to the New Orleans Police Department. On Monday afternoon (May 2), a driver was struck by a bullet on Interstate 10 near the Carrollton Avenue exit. The victim, a 22-year-old woman, was caught in the crossfire as the occupants of two vehicles began firing at each other at about 2:45 p.m., police said. She was taken to the hospital for treatment. Early on Monday, three men held up a 44-year-old man at gunpoint in Hollygrove.
